Towns Beerwah.org The opportunity to develop and practise social skills in school is quite limited. Children spend nearly all their time in school with other children born during the same academic year as themselves, and a great deal of time outside school as well. In school, there is little social contact with younger or older children and even less with adults. It is easy to see how peer mores, values and codes of behaviour become entrenched, resulting in considerable pressure to conform and the threat of ostracism or exclusion from the group for those who do not. Moreover, up to one and a half hours a day in school is specifically set aside for social recreation in the playground, where children are thrown together with nothing much to do. It is not surprising that playground hierarchies emerge and bullying is rife. - Alan Thomas 'Educating Children at Home'

Glass House Early Education Centre and Pre-SchoolGlass House Early Education Centre & Pre-School![]() Our state of the art centre opened on the 3rd October 2006. We are a double centre catering for children from birth through to school age. We are open from 6:30am to 6:30pm five days a week, 52 weeks a year (excluding public holidays). As security is one of our priorities our centre has an advanced security system where parents are allocated their own security card to access the centre during business hours. Anyone else wishing to enter the building must be accompanied by a staff member.
![]() At our centre we celebrate diversity, welcoming a range of families with different cultures, backgrounds, and religions. The staff are committed to up-dating their skills and knowledge and frequently attend in-service training and seminars. Our dedicated and caring staff provide developmentally appropriate programs in all of the rooms. Our staff monitor each child’s progress and program specific activities to further extend their skills across all areas of development. We also offer a perceptual motor program (PMP) which helps the children to learn about themselves and their physical and social environment and to develop skills such as balance, hand-eye co-ordination and strength, while fostering self-esteem, co-operation, imagination, language and social skills. We have a Kindergarten programme in our Senior Kindy room that begins to focus on pre writing and numeracy skills. This is a beginning step in our life long learning process. There is a School Readiness class on offer for children aged between 4 and 5 years old. This programme involves an additional focus on literacy and numeracy to prepare the children for Prep and Year 1. This programme also has a spotlight on the beginnings of Maths, Science and Community Learning areas.
![]() We also provide a fun and exciting before and after school care program and vacation care programs for school aged children. The Centre provides many services, some of which are:
