Happy Chappie make for Happy Kids

Principal of Beerwah State High School, Iqbal Singh, believes that school chaplains are valuable asset to enriching the lives of young people and assisting them to build a happy and successful future.

Chaplains bring a whole new dimension to schools and provide an opportunity for people to reflect on the broader meaning of life. Mr Singh said it is a myth that chaplains are just people who go around preaching the bible and such comments are really showing the lack of knowledge and understanding of people making such comments. “All the chaplains I have met and worked with have been great human beings who just want to help young people get a good start in life” Mr Singh said. Mr Singh who has been in a range of very different schools across Queensland says he has seen first hand the tremendous benefits of chaplaincy programs to the lives of young people and their families. He feels the spirituality they bring to a school community is something which seems lacking in the lives of many. Mr Singh explained spirituality as the connectedness of people and the sense of community. The special and independent nature of the role enables chaplains to connect with some young people who struggle to communicate their feelings and emotions. Mr Singh said that Beerwah State High School was blessed to have a chaplain of the quality of Mike Turner and hopes that the community will continue to support Mike in his role of school chaplain. Mike Turner works with the full range of students from Beerwah SHS and really does bring happiness into the lives of many of our troubled young people.

Mr Singh said that he had once heard someone say “Schools with a ‘HAPPY CHAPPIE’ help develop happy kids” and he said this is particularly true of our local Beerwah Chaplain, Mike Turner.

Please support the Ride for Chappie event to help the local chaplaincy program.
