Towns Beerwah.org We prefer that they [the children] should never say they have learned botany or conchology, geology or astronomy. Who knows what 2009 will bring – but it’s sure to be bigger and better than ever! Rotary Glasshouse Country Sustainability and Garden Expo 2009 Sustainability under the spotlight at expo: If you are looking for practical, innovative ways of becoming more sustainable around the home and garden, then make sure you mark your calendar for the Rotary Glasshouse Country Sustainability & Garden Expo on Sunday May 24. With this year’s theme based around sustainability – ‘Sustainable Health for you – Your Garden – Your community’, visitors to the expo will be assured of picking up some valuable household and gardening tips. This year, due to changes in funding, we have formed a partnership with the Rotary Club Of The Glass House Mountains Inc, and the new name of the event from this year will be the Rotary-Glasshouse Country Garden Expo. Our intention is to continue to grow this expo to be the largest event of its type in the region. This year’s theme is “Sustainable Health for You - Your Garden – Your Community”, and the inclusion of lifestyle exhibits is expected to provide greater interest for all. If you are a business or part of a community group this is a great opportunity to make contact with the largest gathering of people in our region focusing on the things we need to know to enjoy living in our region. We will also be conducting a gardening competition for gardeners and schools in the region, and will be encouraging visitors to stay in our region for the weekend by the promotion of other activities. There is an open invitation to business operators and community groups who may or may not be able to participate in this year’s event. If you would like to enjoy the exposure of our advertising program please contact Bob McLean, Rotary - Glasshouse Country Garden Expo Coordinator, phone 0427 606 240. ![]() Sustainability under the spotlight at expo: If you are looking for practical, innovative ways of becoming more sustainable around the home and garden, then make sure you mark your calendar for the Rotary Glasshouse Country Sustainability & Garden Expo on Sunday May 24. Schools get involvedExpo calls on local students to exercise their green thumbs School students across the region are being encouraged to pull on their gardening gloves ahead of the inaugural Glasshouse Country Garden Expo schools competition. According to Expo Coordinator Bob McLean, the school garden competition is about encouraging schools and the local community to become involved in gardening and nature. “One of the most valuable lessons we can teach our young people is about the wonderful resource that is our natural environment, and what we can all do to help protect and enhance it,” Bob said. “Gardening is such a simple way to encourage children to get back to nature, and enjoy the fruits of their labour.” Bob said many of the local schools are already involved in gardening, boasting impressive fruit and vege gardens, and hosting regular tree planting. “The schools competition is an ideal way for the school community to gain some recognition for all their hard work.” and will be judged on what they have developed, as well as their display at the expo. Schools can enter in one of three categories:
